Warm feeling from gifts

In the last April, Phu Giao district carried out a meeting to give gifts to 400 disabled people and orphans on occasion of Vietnam Day for People with Disabilities. Gift-receivers was very happy, in addition to a material value, it also showed local government’s concern and encouragement for the poor people. Tran Thi Thanh, a disabled person, said: "I have 2 sons but they died, currently I am alone. Because of old age and disability, I cannot work and sell lottery tickets for a living. But I do not feel lonely, because of the care from the local community. Today I received gifts, including essential necessities for daily use, and feel so happy”.

Tran Van Dung in Tan Hiep commune has a leg defect because of a traffic accident. Mr. Dung said: “Every year on national holidays, mass organizations often come to give gifts and visit our family. The gifts were not so big, but showed the concern and care of the locals for the disabled, encourage us to overcome difficulties and better ourselves”. Receiving regular attention and support from all levels and sectors, especially the district Office of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, Dung said: “The attention of all levels and sectors is a great encouragement to me and my family to overcome difficulties, strive for a better life”.

This is one of the activities to take care of social security objects that Phu Giao district has implemented in recent years. According to Nguyen Van Hai, Deputy Head of Phu Giao district Office of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the district now has 2,752 social beneficiaries, including children with difficult circumstances, people with disabilities, people with chronic mental illness, sick people... These people are entitled to fully and promptly receive the State's allowances and supports. During the year, we verified and grasp the actual situation of social beneficiaries in communes, towns, and then advised the district People's Committee to these people; in 2018, 449 persons were subsidized. In addition to the monthly allowance, on occasion of Lunar New Year 2019, this office collaborated with local branches and unions to give visits and gifts to 6,696 persons. For those who still have labor ability, depending on each case, the district helped them with capital and business methods to improve their lives.

Don't let anyone be left behind

Social beneficiaries facing difficulties were promptly supported. If they unfortunately got diseases, they had not worried much about treatment, because they had granted health insurance cards. The work of caring for social beneficiaries also received contributions of benefactors, economic and social organizations... An Binh commune is one of the localities that have done well this work to encourage local communities to take care of social beneficiaries. Bui Thi Thuy Thom, Vice Chairwoman of the commune People's Committee, said the commune had more than 500 social beneficiaries who needed helps. On big occasions, the commune encouraged benefactors in and outside the province to give gifts to these people. For example, An Binh Rubber Plantation has subsidized monthly 3 lonely elderly persons, each VND 500,000 or more.

Social security work has been well implemented by local authorities, relevant sectors, and communes, towns of Phu Giao district, bringing good results. After hearing about poor people who need help, officials came directly to verify their siutation to implement policies to support these beneficiaries.

“In order to bring a better life to social beneficiaries, agencies, sectors, unions, and socio-political organizations in the district collaborated to organize many practical activities to help these people. However, the number of people with disabilities, orphans, and poor patients in the district that were benefited from social welfare programs, projects and activities is still modest. Therefore, in addition to the attention of the authorities at all levels, the contribution of the whole society is in need”, added Nguyen Van Hai, Deputy Head of Phu Giao district's Office of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs.
