Update: 25-05-2012 | 00:00:00

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will invite Vietnamese nationals abroad to play for the national U22 squad in preparation for the Asian U22 qualifiers.

Nguyen Thanh Giang, who resides in Germany, and Mac Hong Quan, who lives in the Czech Republic, will be called in for training in early June if they are given the green light from their families and clubs.

Pham Van Tuan, deputy head of the General Department of the Sports and Physical Training, welcomed VFF’s decision, saying Vietnamese national players will help improve the quality of Vietnamese professional football.

Letters of invitation will be sent to the two players’ families and clubs, said Vien.

Born in Germany in 1991, Giang is playing as a striker for Ergebirge Aue FC, a second division football club. Three years ago, he returned to Vietnam for training with his U19 team mates, but he was not accepted as the U19 national squad then did not use overseas Vietnamese players.

Quan was born in Hanoi in 1992 and moved to the Czech Republic in 2000. In 2007 he played as the captain for junior Sparta Praha which has trained many international players such as Pavel Nedved, Patrick Berger, Jan Koeller, Tomas Rosicky and Petr Cech.

Last year Quan players for Sparta Praha B team and scored two goals in his debut game.

The two players are scheduled to return to Vietnam on June 3 and begin training on June 5.
