A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Luong Minh is attending the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which is being held in Sharm El Sheikh City, Egypt from May 7-10.
The meeting is focused on preparations for a high-level meeting of the NAM to be held in Tehran, Iran in August.
At an interview with a VOV correspondent in Egypt, Hoang Chi Trung, Head of the Department of International Organizations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Vietnamese delegation has actively participated in preparing agenda documents with a number of contents discussed in New York in late March and early April.
He said Vietnam and other NAM member countries have focused on measures to build the ASEAN community as well as stability and peace in the region and other parts of the world.
Vietnam has also dwelled on the disarmament issue and the need to build a world free of nuclear weapons and implement the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Luong Minh met with other NAM officials to gather support for Vietnam’s participation in the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, the UN Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 term and for the UN Economic and Social Council for the 2016-2018 term.
