Coach Hoang Van Phuc

Now the head coach of the Hanoi football club, Phuc will start his job with the national side on January 23 when the team’s camping starts in Hanoi to prepare for a friendly game with Hyundai Mipo Dolphin FC from South Korea on Jan.31.

After that, he will lead the side to partake in two qualifying games at the 2015 Asian Cup with the United Arab Emirates in Hanoi on February 6 and host Hong Kong on March 22.

Phuc has scored good record in training young football teams. He led the national U-16 team of Vietnam to crown the title at Southeast Asian Championship in 2008 and 2010. Last year, he took the U-22 national team to win silver medal at the international BTV Cup in Binh Duong province.

The selection of the head coach for the senior team of Vietnam has recently fallen into a mess after two other coaches refused the post. VFF first announced Hoang Anh Tuan of Khanh Hoa to take the post, but later said they had received a yes from coach Huynh Duc, and thus would appoint him for the job.

But soon later, both Tuan and Duc turned down the invitation.
