Vietnamese officials attend 34th AIPA related events

Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly Tong Thi Phong has proposed a discussion on green growth at a meeting of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Executive Committee in Brunei on September 18.

She also provided a review of the fifth AIPA Caucus Meeting in Vietnam’s Central Highlands city of Da Lat in May for delegates to the meeting, which was held to make preparations for the 34th AIPA.

Under the chair of Isa Bin Ibrahim, Chairman of Brunei Legislative Council and Chairman of 34th AIPA, delegates from AIPA’s 35 member countries screened working programmes and agenda of the 34th AIPA together with discussion topics.

They agreed on the date and place for the next AIPA and other important issues.

The same day, female parliamentarians of ASEAN met as part of the 34 th AIPA.

Chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Committee for Social Affairs Truong Thi Mai attended the event.

The women legislators recommended the AIPA’s member parliaments to mainstream the health issue of women and children health in national law systems.

They also urged ASEAN member governments to further improve maternity services as well as medical care access for women and children in a bid to realise the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) relating to health by 2015.
