During the visit, he held talks with President Sang and met with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.
At the meetings, both sides agreed to push all-around co-operation between Vietnam and Azerbaijan, especially in economic trade.
They will strive to increase two-way trade to US$1 billion in the future, from the current US$400 million per year.
Besides forging bilateral oil and gas links as a strategic priority in the long run, the countries also showed interest in the high-potential fields of light industry and real estate.
Azerbaijan will provide Vietnam with legal assistance to boost investment in the market, while Vietnam will consider the possibility of importing more oil from Azerbaijan.
During his Vietnam visit, President Ilham Aliyev also witnessed the signing of an inter-governmental agreement on trade and science-technology, and another on double taxation avoidance.
