Campaign to make the world cleaner initiated by Australia in 1993 was launched globally in the third week of September. Ever since, the campaign has become an annual important international environmental event, attracting the participation of 35 million volunteers in over 120 countries worldwide.The campaign is the occasion of gathering businesses, community groups, schools, countries and individuals to participate in program activities and environmental protection.
In 2010, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources with the participation of the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Australian Embassy in Vietnam (Organizing Committee) has chosen Bac Ninh province to host launching ceremony in 2010 by September 19th under the theme of "Communities caring for nature" with the goal of raising public awareness on environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and creating a mass movement of environmental protection.
Implementing the direction of Binh Duong People's Committee, Department of Natural Resources and Environment made the following actions in response to the campaign:
- Hanging banners and propaganda slogans with campaign theme in 2010 and the propaganda slogans on environmental protection along Binh Duong Avenue and the streets from TDM center from September 16th to 23rd;
- Make short video clips to promote and propagate the environmental protection activities and broadcast them on Binh Duong Television with contents promoting environmental protection actions such as planting trees, garbage prescribed places, saving energy and resources, and propaganda slogans on environmental protection.
Besides, associations and unions in the province also organized activities to respond as Women's Union launched propaganda to clean up environment to raise people's awareness on environmental protection and on right places for garbage, making beautiful scenery streets and public places.
A series of propaganda activities will also be organized in the districts, communes, wards and towns in accordance with local situation. During the campaign through many ways including marching, distribution leaflets in public places and main streets, organizing rubbish collection, dredging, cleaning residential areas and markets, creating sanitary landscapes, writing and drawing competitions on the topic of environmental protection.
These activities will contribute significantly in the work of improving people's awareness on environmental protection and will gradually change their behavior and attitudes that are friendlier to environment, to improve environmental quality in the province and the movement will be replicated nationwide.
