Hanoi held a ceremony on June 12 to honour individuals and collectives for their blood donation efforts, and launched a blood drive for the summer of 2011.

The city granted certificates of merit to 46 collectives and 114 outstanding participants in the city’s blood donation movement, which was enthusiastically supported by the city residents.

In the first five months of the year, Hanoi collected more than 48,500 units of blood, which accounts for 51 percent of its annual target.

On this occasion, nearly 1,000 young people and students registered to donate blood as part of the blood drive launched by the city’s committee for blood donations and it expects to collect over 400 units of blood by June 12.
