Disaster precaution plans and rescue relief well implemented

In the morning of May 25, Mr. Mai Hung Dung, Standing Member of Binh Duong provincial Party Committee cum Standing Deputy Chairman of the provincial People's Committee and Head of the provincial Commanding Committee for Disaster Precaution, Search and Rescue chaired a conference to summarize disaster precaution and protection in 2020 and implementation of tasks in 2021.

According to reports, from the beginning of the year to May 18, there were 3 rains and whirlwinds in the province, causing 3 injuries, collapse of 8 houses, removal of roofs of 443 houses, 10 factories, 3 office buildings, 24 barns, and 12 temporary houses, damage of 4254.3 ha of rubber, 56.5 ha of fruit trees, 1 ha of crops, and 0.2 ha of orchids, 15m inland road landslide, making 230 households lack water. The accumulated property damage is about VND 53.5 billion.

In 2021, in order to be proactive in natural disaster precaution, search and rescue, the province will continue to develop tasks and plans to respond to natural disaster levels by strengthening human resources, equipment, supporting tools, advising and administering disaster prevention; by organizing training and drills to improve the capacity of the task force and raise people's awareness in natural disaster prevention and control. On the other hand, inspection and direction are made against localities and construction management units according to their decentralization to inspect irrigation works, natural disaster prevention works, especially reservoir works, embankment, adequate and timely drainage of water before, during and after the rainy season, early detection of damage to repair and reinforce in time to ensure the safety and increase efficiency of the works and prevent inundation caused by rain, floods and tides. Simultaneously, propaganda and law dissemination are organized raise awareness of agencies, units, authorities at all levels, people and communities in preventing, responding to and overcoming consequences of natural disasters. The implementation of duty is organized to monitor the hydro-meteorological situation, the situation of natural disasters, rain, storms, floods, high tides, and saltwater intrusion in the province, to advise and report to leaders for timely handling and for having effective responses in disaster situations to minimize damage caused by natural disasters.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Mai Hung Dung assessed that disaster precaution and search and rescue in 2020 achieved some pretty good results. At the same time, it is proposed to continue to consolidate and assign tasks of the provincial Commanding Committee for Natural Disaster Precaution and Control, Search and Rescue in accordance with regulations. On the other hand, localities should review and assess areas that have landslides or are at risk of landslides affecting productive land, infrastructure works, and roads while giving warning solutions. Sectors and localities should strengthen information and propaganda to raise people's awareness of natural disaster precaution, search and rescue, and ensure safety in the rainy season.
