Although the Covid-19 pandemic in the whole country has been well controlled, the situation of the pandemic is still very complicated, especially there have been many infections of new variants. Along with that, the number of cases with dengue fever, foot-and-mouth disease has increased and there were deaths. In the world, monkeypox has appeared in many countries and Vietnam is at risk of being invaded by this new disease. The complicated development of infectious diseases has raised the fear of "overlapping pandemics", requiring not to be subjective and neglectful in prevention.
A report by the health sector at the meeting of provincial Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control last weekend showed that the rate of vaccination against Covid-19 with the 4th dose for people aged at 18 years and above, the 3rd dose for children aged at 12-17, the 2nd dose for children aged at 5-11 is still slow and has not reached the set target. Although the Covid-19 vaccination campaign, especially booster shots, has been widely deployed by the province very early, the results have not been satisfactory. That fact clearly reflects the subjectivity appearing in the community, especially those who have completed the 3rd injection. Besides, the health sector also needs to recheck how to organize vaccination, creating maximum convenience for people, attracting their most active participation to ensure the completion of the set target.
The local health sector's report to the end of the week also showed that the number of dengue fever cases increased by 58.3% over the same period in 2021, with nearly 9,500 cases and 13 deaths. Along with that, hand-and-mouth disease is also very complicated. Since early this year, there have been nearly 2,270 cases, up 73.2% over the same period last year and there was 1 death.
In the face of the above situation, Binh Duong has continued maintaining a high spirit of pandemic prevention and control as it was shown and brought good results during the peak of the Covid-19 epidemic in 2021. Localities throughout the province have launched the peak month for vaccination and eradication of larvae. The risk of overlapping pandemics is very close, especially in this rainy season. To prevent and control dangerous infectious diseases, protecting people’s health and lives at a maximum level, Assoc. Prof. - Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu, Director of Hanoi Medical Hospital cum Director of provincial General Hospital has proposed to reactivate the Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control to proactively respond and bring about the best results. The proactive spirit also needs the participation of all-level authorities, sectors, localities and people throughout the province.
