The emulation movement of “Good farmer in production and business” has been promoted among farmers in Tan Uyen district. Also upon this movement, the lives of the local farmers have been improved considerably.

Effective models

Ngo Phuong Thanh, Chairman of Tan Uyen district’s Farmers Association said that the district has so far had as many as 7,607 farming households with the title of “Good farmer in production and business” at all levels, including 80 at central level, 503 at provincial level, 1,615 at district level and 5,409 at communal, township levels.

Over the past time, the district’s Farmers Association also coordinated with the district’s Plant Protection Station, Agricultural Promotion Station, Veterinary Station and Mam Xanh Fertilizer Company to organize 258 training courses on animal husbandry and cultivation techniques for members. Thanks to their flexibility and creation plus efforts in sci-tech application, farmers herein have so far made many effective models, contributing to comprehensively promoting the local agricultural sector.

The district-based clubs on animal husbandry, farming...have continued absorbing a large crowd of members. The whole district is now home to 13 cooperative groups and collective economic models at facilities, namely Tan My, Uyen Hung, Bach Dang, Thanh Phuoc, Tan Hiep, Lac An. Noticeably, there are two farms Phuong Uyen and Doan Minh Chien granted the VietGAP certificates.

Le Thi Chuyen, a good farmer in Hoi Nghia commune said that she previously failed to develop a model of growing spinach. After attending training courses on growing safe vegetables, she has changed to this model, helping her family secure a more stable life. On average, she secures a monthly profit of VND1mln from her safe vegetables-growing model of more than 3,000 sq.m.

Whilst, other good farmer Bui Van Minh in Uyen Hung township said: “Currently, I harvest nearly 100kg of oyster mushroom a day with the average price of around VND20,000 kg. My annual profit is estimated at between VND200mln and VND300mln”.

According to Mr.Thanh, the model of growing pomelo in association with milk banana is the province’s newest model with high economic efficiency. Many other animal husbandry and cultivation models in the district have also brought high economic efficiency, helping members of the district’s Farmers Association rise up out of poverty. This has contributed to the local socio-economic development.

Making contributions to rural new construction

Apart from improving the lives of their families, the district’s outstanding farmers have well realized their duties and responsibilities to the State and the community. They have always been in the vanguard of movements on rural traffic construction, social welfare, new rural construction…

Members of the district’s Farmers Association last year took park in upgrading, clearing canals…with a total expense of more than VND2.5bln. They also helped each other in hunger eradication and poverty reduction. Especially, they contributed money and working days to upgrading and building great unity houses to poor households.

Possibly speaking, the emulation movement of “Good farmer in production and business” has braced up farmers to be utterly dedicated to their work to rise up out of poverty. Many have known to shift their animal and plant structure, apply sci-tech advancements and mutually exchange experience in production for better results, contributing to improving the local agricultural and rural face.
