A press briefing was held in Hanoi on January 18 by the Foreign Investment Department of the Ministry of Investment and Planning and the Vietnam Economic Times to announce 80 winners of the 2009 Golden Dragon Award.

The awards ceremony is due to be held on January 24 at the Hanoi Opera House.

Despite a lot of difficulties in 2009, Vietnam’s foreign direct investment (FDI) reached more than US$21 billion, accounting for more than 40 percent of total capital sources mobilised for economic development. In addition, around US$ 10 billion was disbursed.

The Golden Dragon Award was first presented in honour of foreign-invested enterprises’ efforts in building a long-term effective business environment in Vietnam.

Prof Dao Nguyen Cat, Editor in Chief of the Vietnam Economic Times said that the award criteria focus on businesses’ efforts to maintain sustainable development and promote environmental protection.
