Early November 12, former President Nguyen Minh Triet had a meeting with Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilymzhinov, former President of the Republic of Kalmykia under the Russian Federation, former President of the World Chess Federation and exchanged with the Chess Club of Phan Chu Trinh high and secondary school in Di An city.

Sharing with Phan Chu Trinh primary-secondary school’s teaching staff, Mr. Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilymzhinov said that when still being the President of the Republic of Kalmykia, he was interested in investing in the development of chess, making great contributions to the development of students' thinking and intelligence. Most students who play this subject have very good results in math... Up to now, thanks to the policy of paying attention to chess, Kalmykia is known as the chess city. In Kalmykia, chess becomes a compulsory subject in high schools.
Speaking at the meeting, former President Nguyen Minh Triet affirmed that the Republic of Kalmykia is a great friend of Vietnamese people while sincerely thanking and acknowledging the valuable affection of Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilymzhinov to Vietnam over the past years. He believed that this visit and exchange with students who are passionate about chess will be a source of encouragement for the province's sports sector to promote the movement of playing chess at the local schools, aiming to achieve better results domestically and internationally. Teachers and students of Phan Chu Trinh secondary and high school will promote the spirit of good learning and good teaching so that the school can develop comprehensively, being worthy of the school's name associated with the nation's great patriotic revolutionary soldier.
