Hanoi’s bus stations offer free wifi service

Update: 11-02-2015 | 14:50:10

The sign for free wifi service hangs at the ticket counter at My Dinh bus station.

Free wifi services became available on February 10 at bus stations My Dinh, Giap Bat and Gia Lam in Hanoi.

Nguyen Manh Tuan, deputy director of My Dinh Bus Station, said the free wifi service is available at the waiting room and it can serve up to 200 users at the same time. After the lunar New Year, the service will be available at the entire station.

Similarly, the service has been launched at bus stations Giap Bat and Gia Lam.

The free-wifi signs have been put up at ticket stalls and along the corridors of the bus stations.

An official from the Hanoi Department of Transportation said the provision of free wifi service at bus stations is part of a plan to complete the information technology infrastructure and promote transportation services in Hanoi.

Can Tho, the largest city in the Mekong Delta, recently installed free public WiFi on Ninh Kieu Wharf as part of an image-building exercise and to attract more tourists.

Five sets of WiFi equipment were installed at a cost of VND1 billion (over $47,600). Their range is 150 meters. Funded by the city's Department of Information and Communications, the system was installed by the Saigon Postel Corporation in December.

Can Tho plans to install more WiFi spots in Luu Huu Phuoc Park and other central locations.

Can Tho is the seventh city in the country to provide free public WiFi after several northern and central tourist destinations, including Hoi An, Hue and Tam Dao Town near Hanoi.
