Solutions for stable consumption of agricultural products

Update: 28-12-2018 | 09:50:05

Over the past time, the expansion of connections to consume agricultural products is a problem that Binh Duong has paid special attention to. This is one of the solutions to promote the local agricultural sector to develop sustainably.

Most agricultural exports are in raw form

At a recent workshop, Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said there are now 80-90% of Vietnam's agricultural products exported in raw form or exported through quota. Therefore, the export value of these products is not high, even being squeezed by the market of countries. Rocky Sun, Vice Chairman of China - ASEAN Agricultural Chamber of Commerce (CACAC), affirmed that the weakness of Vietnamese agricultural products lies in brand awareness and brand promotion, so agricultural products have not been pressed. statue. Therefore, Vietnam's agricultural products are difficult to "score" compared to agricultural products of countries that have been invested carefully in image, quality and brand.

In Binh Duong, the total cultivated area is 164,924.9 ha, of which perennial industrial crops are 142,712.9 ha. Among these, the area of high-tech agricultural application is about 2,754.7 hectares, an increase of 78.5% compared to 2015. In the province, the application of high technology is associated with processing and consumption according to the price chain. Treatment has been formed and developed according to planning.

Although the agricultural products in the locality have made great progress in both quantity and quality, there is still no solid direction in linking agricultural supply chains. The cause is determined, first of all because the producers have not really focused on the market, not yet solved the disproportionate market of input and output. Besides, local agricultural products are still having difficulties in finding stable output. Along with that, the "rule" of the devaluation season always takes place, making agricultural products in the country often fluctuate, investors are not safe when they want to invest in cooperation, long-term and stable cooperation.

Doan Minh Chien, the owner of Doan Minh Chien general farm (Bac Tan Uyen district), shared the fact that over the past time, the chorus of "having a devaluation season" still took place. Specifically, in the season of 2018, citrus fruits in Bac Tan Uyen district are most successful in the garden but the price is too low, only from 20-50% compared to 2017.

According to the organizing committee of the conference on connecting agricultural and fruit products of Binh Duong province in 2018, for the consumption of agricultural products, connectivity is still a key solution to promote and expand markets for agricultural products. The conference is an opportunity for businesses and economic groups to export agricultural products with experience to seek and expand markets to create a breakthrough in the consumption of agricultural products in the country. Besides, the conference not only connects production and consumption enterprises but also aims to connect with domestic and foreign agro-processing corporations to find directions to bring local agricultural products and fruits to reach out.

Linked to supply chain development

"Trading with friends, selling with wards" - this thinking of my father was never old. Currently, the big question is which solution is feasible to form a sustainable agricultural supply chain in the future. The latest report on the World Bank's agricultural supply chain (WB) shows some interesting indicators for Vietnam's agricultural sector. Accordingly, on a scale of 100 Vietnam currently achieved 55.7 points on supply chain activities, 60.6 points on product quality management and 48.4 points on agricultural trade and trading.

According to Associate Professor - Dr. Ho Thanh Phong, Rector of Hong Bang International University (Ho Chi Minh City), to form a future agricultural supply chain for Binh Duong province, it is necessary to synchronize the solutions. solutions, including: Production, purchasing and distribution strategies; reducing time to market of agricultural products; meet the scale for creative research. In addition, the province should focus on building a network of purchasing agricultural products across the province and surrounding areas, forming a purchasing and preliminary processing center of the province so that agricultural products after being purchased and preliminary processed will be focus on a large logistics center in the region.

Along with that, Binh Duong needs to invest in building a system of cold storage and multimodal transport system, including roads and inland waterways, in which traders play an organizational role and a supplier logistics services for agricultural products, no longer play a role of wholesale agricultural products. The province also needs to form a distribution center and many wholesale markets directly to the points of sale in urban and rural markets.

Experts suggest, Binh Duong should calculate to build trading floors on agricultural products, develop future price markets to overcome risks for farmers, to divide risks and benefit distribution. more uniform benefits between producers, consumers and distributors' intermediaries. At the same time, the province needs to call for agricultural product processing enterprises to exploit goods, to study and invest in construction of preliminary processing plants in localities with large material areas in order to raise the value of agricultural products. Binh Duong must also provide solutions for sustainable agricultural development, support farmers with knowledge about the market, build brand, origin of products to bring production to market, thereby contributing to part stabilizing the domestic market, proceeding to export.
