In order to ensure the balance of supply and demand of food and foodstuffs for the upcoming Lunar New Year, People's Committee of Tan Uyen city has deployed tasks to stabilize the market before, during and after Tet.

Supplying sources rationalized

The stockpiling of essential commodities and price stabilization before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2018 in Tan Uyen Town will take place from January 10 to April 30, 2018. Essential food items include 50 tons of food, 30 tons of pork, 3 tons of poultries, 6,000 eggs, 3 tons of vegetables, fruits and 30 tons of sugar, confectionery, wine, beer, and beverage with total value of goods nearly VND 5 billion. The amount of commodities involved in stockpiling and stabilizing in this occasion will increase by an average of about 20% compared with the regular months of the year.

Investigation showed that at most of the confectionery stalls at traditional market in the province, goods have not been stocked up much as the same period in previous years. According to the small traders, nowadays shoppers do not have the habit of shopping early and much to reserve as before but they do shopping throughout the holiday. Many families also take advantage of Tet holidays to travel, so shopping during Tet has also reduced. Therefore, the current sales in the market is not so exciting.

Nguyen Thi Phuong, a merchant at Quang Vinh I Marketplace shared her opinion: “In previous years, on Tet holiday, I gather hundreds of kilograms of sweet and candies to sell out; however, in recent years, I only stock up a little bit more than normal days. Now, the purchase is much easier, so, I purchase as I have sold out. I dare not stockpiling as before.”

According to the forecast of small traders in the area of Tan Uyen Town, the purchasing power of Tet holiday may not increase much compared to the same period last year. The increment, if any, should only fall into the peak period, not on the days near Tet as in previous years. However, to avoid fluctuations in prices, small traders also stock up a certain amount of goods to celebrate Tet holiday.

To stabilize the market

Nguyen Loc Son, Head of Market Control Team No. 4 in Tan Uyen Town, said that under the direction of the provincial Market Control Division, in the coming time, the unit will continue to strengthen market inspection before, during and after Tet for price listing, product quality, food safety, speculation, hoarding. Inspection, supervision and strict handle shall be practiced against illegally imported goods, banned goods, goods of unknown origins, fake goods, and poor-quality goods in the market. In addition, the team will coordinate with the interdisciplinary inspection delegations to conduct inspection in many markets, production facilities, food businesses, and collective kitchen before, during and after Tet.

For traditional markets, the People's Committee of Tan Uyen has asked the management board of the market in the area to inform small traders to actively balance raw materials to meet the plan, meeting consumer demand and construction a reasonable stockpile plan to avoid scarcity of goods, especially food items for Tet. The stockpile of goods must be clearly identified in terms of origin, quality assurance, hygiene and safety, reasonable price and priority for Vietnamese goods. Market management boards should provide information to functional agencies to take measures to deal with cases of speculation, price hiking to gain illicit profits affecting people's shopping needs.

In addition, People's Committee of Tan Uyen Town encourages, supports, and facilitate businesses to implement programs to stimulate consumption and encourage people to buy high-quality Vietnamese goods so as to stabilize the market during Tet.
