The 2nd Bach Dang Grapefruit Festival imbued with local cultural characteristics

The 2nd Bach Dang Grapefruit Festival took place from 18 to 20 Jan 2019 and has ended successfully. According to the Organizing Committee, this year's festival had many new things compared to the first time in 2017, namely larger scale, more activities...

The festival is carefully prepared

According to Dinh Quoc Phu, Head of Tan Uyen town Office of Culture and Information, in order to have a special cultural show "Pervasive pomelo’s scent" at this festival, the town hosted a contest of writing about Tan Uyen town and Bach Dang pomelo. Besides, “don ca tai tu” programs were planned very early. Besides booths, music shows with diverse contents about patriotism, contests imbued with local cultural characteristics at the festival also attracted many visitors.

 

"The beauty of Motherland" contest takes place at the festival.

As one activity of the festival, the painting contest on “non la” (conical straw hat) with the theme "Spring on Tan Uyen town" with the participation of 300 junior high school students in the town was organized carefully, contributing positively to the success of this year's festival. According to the Organizing Committee, on conical hats, with colored pens, pigments, colored water, students depicted beautiful sceneries of villages, family, school, historical relics of their hometown through their imagination. In particular, in paintings of children, landscapes, life, and people on Bach Dang isle with pomelo planting were very lively.

Tourists visiting the festival were very excited as enjoying specialties made from grapefruit such as pomelo tea, jam, spring rolls, salad, juice, Vietnamese pancake... Le Thi Yen, in Ho Chi Minh City, said that she was impressed with dishes made from pomelo at the festival. Although she has been eating grapefruit sweetened porridge many times, but this one in Bach Dang commune had a better taste than in other places.

Opportunities for tourism development

Pham Van Hung, a worker in South Tan Uyen Industrial Park, said: “This is the first time I come to this festival and visit pomelo gardens, meet local people, I am very impressed with the festival and people here. I will introduce Bach Dang grapefruit festival to friends and my family so that they could come here and discover and enjoy delicious dishes in this land”.

According to Nguyen Van Tam, Director of Bach Dang Pomelo Cooperative, currently most orchards in Bach Dang commune are planting this tree and applying new techniques for beautiful and high-quality pomelos. Besides Bach Dang grapefruit festival 2019, farmers are preserving and preparing pomelos for Lunar New Year 2019.

Doan Hong Tuoi, Chairman of Tan Uyen town People's Committee, said that the second Bach Dang Grapefruit Festival 2019 had the attention of the town leaders. As a result, the festival was well prepared with many new, diverse, and attractive contents; quality of each activity was enhanced, and received the support from majority people, visitors. The festival welcomed every day averagely 3,500 - 4,000 visitors. Through this festival, the town's leaders hoped that this would be a chance for Bach Dang commune to become an attractive tourist destination in the future...
