Pentanque arrived in Vietnam about 100 years ago. In the province, various people classes, especially the youths have chosen pentanque as their games. The movements were thanks to establishment of pentanque clubs. And, Long Nguyen Pentanque Club in Bau Bang District is one of the models. Pentanque club members practise frequently in afternoons. After the entertaining competitions, Mr. Nguyen Doc Quoc, year of birth: 1967, said: “Today, I joined 3 matches and won all. Ever since the place has been established, I am here every day to play with my friends after a day of tiresome.”Ms. Nguyen Thi May, year of birth: 1978, said: “I have played pentanque for 3 years under guidance of other club members. Everyday, I am here to compete to improve skills.”Head of Long Nguyen Pentanque Club, Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuc said that the club was one of the leading clubs in pentanque of Ben Cat. Established in 2009, the club now has 23 members with afternoon training at Long Nguyen Commune People’s Committee.Phuc explained that players from other clubs of other provinces have joined Long Nguyen Club to enjoy the game every afternoon.The club has invested to 2 additional training yards for over 40 members who are Long Nguyen Rubber Plantation workers and officers. Comparing to other sports, pentanque does not require much space. Only on an area of 10m2, a competition of pentanque could be established. The international standard require a yard of 5x11 meters with rush stones and the boules should be around 650 to 720g in weight. The game rule is very simple by scoring and shooting in interaction with the jack and boules.From the date of establishment, the club has won various medals in tournaments through years. In 2014, the club is determined to supplement players to the province attending National Sports Games in Nam Dinh Province.Pentanque and other sports in Bau Bang District should be promoted in bid to affirm the position of a newly established district in terms of economy, culture, art performance, and sports.Reported by Thien Ly – Translated by Vi Bao
