They made a fact-finding trip to several districts in Mexico City and Puebla State. Both sides had in-depth discussions on how to develop the multi-dimensional poverty measurement, mechanisms and measures of multidimensional poverty monitoring and criteria for identifying multidimensional poverty. They touched upon the coordination of national efforts to eradicate poverty, especially in urban areas, and in-depth research on poverty alleviation in the process of social development, urban management, and migration. They also examined the application of the multidimensional approach according to criteria related to education, health, social security, housing, basic services and food.At a meeting, SEDESOL vice minister Juan Carlos Lastiri Quiros briefed the Vietnamese delegation on Mexico’s National Crusade Against Hunger, introduced by President Enrique Peña Nieto’s new government in 2013, its initial results, and orientations in the next five years.According to Quiros, about 46% of the Mexican population are currently living under the poverty line according to the new criteria.
