Vietnam wins gold medal in Athens Special Olympics 2011

Vietnamese athlete, Ngo Huu Ky Phong, has won a gold medal at the Special Olympics World Summer Games Athens 2011, which is taking place in Greece from June 25 to July 4.

The 18-year-old from the central province of Thua Thien-Hue earned his medal in the 5 meter-race with record time of 10.34 seconds.

The Vietnamese delegation of eight members mainly from Thua Thien-Hue province and Ho Chi Minh City, is led by Pham Van Tuan, Deputy Head of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.

Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet also sent a letter of congratulations on the occasion of the Games to the Chairman and CEO of Special Olympics International, Dr. Timothy Shriver, and the President of the organising committee for the Special Olympics World Summer Games Athens 2011, Mrs Joanna Despotopoulou.
