Vietnamese – Korean multicultural families meet online

40 families of Vietnamese brides who married Korean men, on September 4 had a chance to meet and talk with their relatives through online television provided by South Korea’s KT Group at its representative office in Hanoi and its branch in South Korea. Vietnamese brides in South Korea chatting online with family The online meeting program for Vietnamese and South Korean families was organized by the trade union of KT group for five days from September 2 - 6. Through the centre for multicultural families support, the organizing board selected 40 families to participate in this event, from provinces and cities across South Korea such as Busan, Daegu, Chungnam. The families in Vietnam whose daughters are in South Korea had the opportunity to directly talk with their relatives for about 30 minutes. During the time, a team of doctors from Bundang hospital of Seoul University also participated in voluntary activities such as medical examination for 172 Vietnamese people in mountainous areas where healthcare systems are poor and backward. Besides, other practical voluntary activities such as improving houses for Vietnamese families and Vietnamese brides in South Korea, presenting computers for organizations for disabled people in Vietnam to help Vietnamese brides quickly adapt to life in South Korea, as well as opening up great prospects for exchange between the people of Vietnam and Korea by raising awareness of South Korean businesses. Participants in the program, Mr. Truong Ngoc Dinh and Mrs. Dinh Thi Thanh in Dap Cau ward, Bac Ninh city, Bac Ninh province, said their daughter married a Korean in 2005, but due to the difficult conditions of her husband's family she can not afford to visit them. The online meeting helped them ease their nostalgia of separation from their daughter and daughter’s children. Pham Thi Nho, a Vietnamese bride, shared that since she went to South Korea, she has never met her parents again. The meeting this time is a rare opportunity for her to meet and talk with her family. Mr. Choi Jang Bok from KT group said that after Vietnam and South Korea established diplomatic ties, the relations between the two countries have grown rapidly. He hopes this event will help enhance the image of South Korea in Vietnamese – South Korean families, as well as raise interest and understanding of multicultural families to a new level. It is known that in the near future, KT group will open more online meetings in many cities like Ho Chi Minh city and Da Nang, and further help multicultural families. In 2011, the KT group and the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group signed a memorandum of understanding, relating to mutual cooperation for the purpose of pursuing collaborative relationships such as multicultural families support, as well as technical exchanges between leading telecommunication companies of the two countries./.
