Vitality of Tai Tu music in Binh Duong Province

In 2013, UNESCO certified Tai Tu music as a human intangible heritage. Ever since, Tai Tu music has become a subject of preservation by Vietnamese people and the world.

In Binh Duong Province, Tai Tu music has been preserved in various practices and development. Tai Tu music has particularly been practiced widely in clubs of working people and immigrant workers. Now, the refined melodies have represented the feelings of the immigrants in sweet voices of flowery. Up to date, Binh Duong Province has over 70 clubs and groups of Tai Tu music in quality operations drawing more and more members as workers in industrial parks and clusters. Many of them have become active members contributing to local art performing activities while affirming position of Binh Duong Province in the regional stages of Tai Tu music.

Nguyen Thi Minh Nghia, the Deputy Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: “The provincial cultural sector has not only connected the artists in Tai Tu music contest while bringing the sophisticate arts to students and workers even in remote districts but also combined with cultural activities in various localities disseminating Tai Tu music knowledge in the mass media.”

By the care and orientation of local leaders, Binh Duong Province has making efforts to promote activities, creativity, and responsibility for cultural heritage of precedents. Accordingly, the province has rationally implemented preservation projects to promote Tai Tu music while planning for National Tai Tu music Festival 2017 under the theme of ‘Tai Tu music – preservation and development’.

By all out hope and expectation for preservation and promotion of the heritage prosperity, the upcoming festival includes various activities including food courts and workshop to uphold Tai Tu music and artists. The activities will be widely in the province with Binh Duong New City as the center of major activities.

Thu Hong, an elite artist, said: “In the festival, Binh Duong Province will impress and introduce its images of Tai Tu music to neighbor provinces and cities. Accordingly, we can show our passion and determination to bring Tai Tu music to higher development. The roads ahead are wide but I believe that we will overcome them all by all-out efforts.”
