Vo Phu Trung wins first stage of the 2011 Binh Duong Journalists’ Association Cycling Tournament

Update: 22-06-2011 | 00:00:00

The 2011 Binh Duong Journalists’ Association Cycling Tournament to mark the 86th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925-June 21, 1925) was officially kicked off yesterday in the Binh Duong new city and also completed its first stage from Binh Duong to Ba Ria-Vung Tau with total length of 118 km.

Cyclists faced a lot of incidents in the first stage of the tournament. At least 35 out of 100 cyclists suffered from flat tyres. Possibly speaking, this was also an unlucky day for Vietnam’s strong cyclist Do Tuan Anh. After facing the incident of flat tyre at hamlet 1, Phuoc Thai commune, Long Thanh district, he continued being fall down in Tan Thanh district’s Tan Phuoc district in Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Also like Do Tuan Anh, many other strong cyclists, including Sai Gon Plant Protection’s Le Van Duan, Vinamit’s Ho Cong Minh Nhat…encountered many incidents, so they did not grasp high positions in the overall ranking table after the first stage of the tournament.

Cyclists had more favorable competition when coming to the area of Ba Ria town, due to wide and clear roads. At that time, cyclists were divided into four main groups. The first group with 7 cyclists, including An Giang Plant Protection’s Vo Phu Trung, ADC Vinh Long Television’s Ho Van Phuc, Domesco Dong Thap’s Nguyen Truong Tai, Le Ngoc Son, Tran Quoc Dung…was around two minutes distant from the second group.

Finally, Vo Phu Trung defeated Ho Van Phuc to win the yellow jersey of the first stage with a total time of 2:59:11. Nguyen Truong Tai came third in the first stage. Nguyen Duc Loc was Binh Duong’s cyclist with the best competition achievement with the 28th position in the first stage.

In the team ranking, ADC Vinh Long Television now takes lead with a total time of 58:45, followed by An Giang Plant Protection and Sai Gon 1 Plant Protection. Domesco Dong Thap 1 and Domesco Dong Thap 2 ranked fourth and fifth in the team ranking after the first stage of the tournament.

Today, June 22, cyclists continue in the second stage from Vung Tau city to Phan Thiet city with total length of 168 km.
