Binh Duong’s agricultural sector: Restructuring for better development

Provincial People’s Committee has just issued the Action Plan No.388 for the Project of “Restructuring the agricultural sector towards greater added value and sustainable development” of Prime Minister of Government. Acccordingly, Binh Duong’s agricultural sector will rise to a new height.

Concentrated development in association with processing

The biggest goal of the Action Plan No.388 is to build up the agricultural sector in a comprehensive, modern and sustainable manner. Under the plan, the production values of the agriculture-forestry-fishery sector will reach an average growth rate of 4%-4.5%/year in the 2013 and 2015 period and 3.5%-4%/year in the 2016 and 2020 period. The production values of cultivation and animal husbandry per hectare of farming land will be between VND80mln and VND100mln. Hi-tech agricultual production will reach between VND150mln and VND200mln per hectare of farmingland per year.

To uphold advantages in natural conditions and depend on market demand, the Action Plan No.388 aims at restructuring the agricultural sector towards the growth of urban agricultural models with high technologies and ecological orchard models in association with tourist development in the southern region of Binh Duong. In the northern region of the province, the local agricultural sector will focus on developing specialized areas in cultivation and animal husbandry with hi-tech application in association with processing and consumption. The plan also puts focus on agricultural promotion, technical consultancy for farmers for better results in cultivation and animal husbandry.

Binh Duong is now home to a very great specialized area on rubber trees. Under the plan, the province will continue developing the local rubber trees-growing area in association with vocational training and sci-tech transfer. The province will further brace up the development of rubber latex-processing factories to increase the output of rubber latex processed.

For other crop plants, Binh Duong will further build up great specialized areas meeting ViettGAP’s standards to enhance the value of commodities. The Action Plan No.388 will also continue bracing up farmers to promote models on ornamental creature and fruit trees.

Resources mobilized

The local agricultural sector will further give priority to realizing programs with sci-tech application in association with production and processing of farm produce after harvested. The sector will also bend on promoting fields that are capable of creating breakthroughs in terms of productivity and quality with high adaptability to ecological conditions of the local areas.

Especially, the sector must attach special importance to application of information technology in production and processing. Binh Duong will also consider and speed up construction of a station of experimentation and transfer of sci-tech advancements for urban and hi-tech agricultural production.

Binh Duong will make a plan on developing human resources to serve the restructuring of the local agricultural sector as planned. Besides, there will be an increase in public investment for rural industry in the province under the spirit of provincial Party Committee’s Resolution No.26 on agriculture, farmers and rural areas. Binh Duong will continue giving priority to pouring investment capital into some specialized areas with advantages as planned with many projects, including the project of developing special fruit trees in Dau Tieng district’s Thanh Tuyen commune, the project of developing urban agriculture along Cai stream in Tan Uyen town…

Pham Van Bong, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: “The Action Plan No.388 specified concrete targets and tasks of releant agencies to promote the restructuring of the local agricultural sector. Promoting the restructuring of the local agricultural sector will create many advantages for the local farmers and rural region to reach a robust growth in the coming time. This will not only contribute to reshaping the local rural image, but also satisfy the local demand for urban agricultural development. More importantly, farmers in Binh Duong will enjoy opportunities to improve their lives and even rise up to get rich when the restructuring of the local agricultural sector is implemented successfully.
