Update: 29-06-2012 | 00:00:00

At the announcement ceremony of the establishment of TDM Town held on the evening of June 27, Becamex IDC and Japan’s Tokyu Corporation clinched a cooperation memorandum on traffic system development in Binh Duong. The merorandum aims at developing a modern bus transit system and possibly a rail line connected to the inter-provincial transport system between Binh Duong and other areas in the Southern Key Economic Zone.

This event is of great significance for Binh Duong’s traffic infrastructure development with many breakthroughs to be created in the coming time.

In fact, Binh Duong has a strategic position as a center of the Southern Key Economic Zone, with an annual GDP growth of 14-15%, far exceeding the nation’s average level. The province now has a population of 1.6 million over the total of 24 million residents in the southern region. The province’s traffic infrastructure has also made many changes and it has been considered as a model system of the whole cocuntry and well served the local socio-economic development.

But, in the eyes of Takahasgu Toshiyuki, CEO of  Japan’s Tokyu Group with much experience in traffic infrastructure development, Binh Duong’s traffic infrastructure is still full of shortcomings for change.

“From now onwards, drawing experience from the development of the urban area Tokyu Tama Denen in Japan, we and Becamex IDC will conduct survey and map out plan for inter-provincial transport system connecting Binh Duong and other areas in the Southern Key Economic Zone, with a focus on a modern bus transit system and a possibility to develop a railway route in the future,” said Toshiyuki.

Representative of Tokyu Corporation also said that after the signing ceremony of the memorandum, Becamex IDC and Tokyu Corporation would immediately forward investment to cater the province’s requirements on traffic infrastructure.

In a recent meeting with leaders of Tokyu Corporation, Le Thanh Cung, chairman of provincial People’s Committee has spoken highly of Tokyu Corporation’s ability and experience. Also according to him, traffic infrastructure development in Binh Duong as well as the Southern Key Economic Zone is very neccesary and this field will also bring high effeciency to investors.

Through this cooperation project, Tokyu Corporation makes a step further into Binh Duong Province. It is known that earlier, the Japanese corporation had formed a joint venture with Becamex IDC to start work on the US$1.2bln-Tokyu Binh Duong Garden City project , covering over 71 hectares in Binh Duong New City. This is now the biggest FDI project in Binh Duong.
