To help laborers overcome obstacles, many businesses have offered significant supports of wage and allowance increase… Of these, building accommodation for laborers and kindergartens for their children is a way to bring long term efficiency.

Laborers’ dreams

Nguyen Thi Tam from Kien Giang Mekong province working at Binh Duong Garment One-member Company, said she and her colleagues have enjoyed a free accommodation offered by the company whilst her other friends have encountered price hike of rental boarding houses. Tam is one of 500 laborers enjoying free accommodation at a 6-storey dorm.

The entire now has 133 businesses building 136,780sqm of accommodation to cater for about 20,000 workers. Many businesses have built dorms for workers. They include Truong Thanh Ltd., Duc Loi 2 Ltd. in Thuan An town, Thai Binh Shoes in Di An town, Star Wood Timber Company in Tan Uyen district.

Especially, based on a survey conducted by the local Labor Union, many businesses have built free boarding houses for workers. Worker Pham Thanh Tuan from Nam Dinh Northern province, said ‘free accommodations help us attach to the company for a long time’.

Open structure needed

Building accommodation for workers is a good deed. The deed is the best way to keep laborers. However, the work has faced some difficulties. A rep of a business in Thuan An town, said the company has planned to build more accommodations for workers but faced some obstacles of building and tax procedures. These obstacles made the company dispirited.

Replying this problem, Nguyen Van Khuong, vice chairman of local Labor Union, said relevant agencies should set out a proper structure to facilitate businesses’ accommodation building.

In reality, businesses building accommodation for workers have located outside industrial parks whilst laborers’ demand on housing in IPs is very huge. Businesses are waiting for common voice from functional agencies to launch building accommodation for workers in conformity with regulations.
