Building Binh Duong green urban: Many tasks to complete

Update: 19-02-2016 | 09:53:44

Binh Duong has now 1,638 hectares of urban greenery, reaching only 13% the requirement of type-1 urban. Therefore, great efforts from all levels, sectors and people in the province are in need to reach a real green urban city.

Greenery background green urban

Currently, Vietnam has no true green city, most green cities are just self-proclamation. These green urban cities merely have many trees rather than meet other requirements of a true green city.

Binh Duong New City

According to native and foreign scientists, there are many definitions of green city. In general, a green city must meet the followings: having fresh air, high-quality water sources, completely neutral and sustainable carbon; low of diseases related to the environment; many greenery spaces, including clean air, water, soil, solid waste…; balancing the interests between socio-economic development and environment ...

Binh Duong is accelerating the industrialization and urbanization pace. That has posed many challenges to the goal of bringing the province to a green urban, worth-living city in the future.

According to MSc Nguyen Thi Thuy, in order for Binh Duong to become a green urban, the first thing to do is propaganda with the aim to raise people's awareness of urban lifestyle, urban culture and environmental protection. Especially, lifestyle habits, waste disposal habits; integrating environmental criteria into criteria for recognizing cultural family, cultural quarter.

Researches by scientists proved that green urban need sustainable, multifunctional land use planning; rational location of functional areas to conserve natural landscapes, limit impact of climate changes and natural disasters. Urban spatial structure should be developed in a mixed direction with high level of concentration in order to reduce travel distances, increase community connections, improve energy efficiency...

In general, a green urban should be compressed, not be spread out to balance and protect the environment. It is also important to prioritize compressed urban which is assembled according to height, saves maximum area for green space but does not encroach on agricultural lands. To Binh Duong, in addition to the above requirements, the rapid development of forest and greenery areas on a large scale should be concerned.

Green space for urban city

According to scientists, urban green space is not simply planting trees in urban areas. Urban green space also existing in the urban landscape is considered as a science with the term "urban forestry". To Binh Duong, at present, parks at core and satellite urban centers, like: TDM City, Di An town, Thuan An, Tan Uyen, Ben Cat, are so small with an average area of about 300m. Thus, only houses surrounding these parks can benefit from the green space. Thus, localities should arrange more parks for the people to have benefits from the green space.

Besides, landscapes creating green space and changing seasonal scenery have not been focused in urban planning and design. To urban green space, planting uniformly a kind of tree can make distinctions but sometimes cause boredom and diseases on many trees simultaneously. These are some features need to be noted when designing urban space. Meanwhile, trees, agricultural plants, individual forests, trees in relics, temples, pagodas have not been negotiated to put into protection, conservation to benefit the whole community.

Researches by Thu Dau Mot University and HCMC University of Agriculture and Forestry proved that Dipterocarpus is the symbol of Binh Duong urban. This genus consists of many species: Dipterocarpus alatus, Dipterocarpus dyeri, Dipterocarpus pilosus, Dipterocarpus obtusifolius… If there were at least one forest to plant and conserve all types of Dipterocarpus that used to be native plants of Binh Duong and add new species mixed with other species, Dipterocarpus forests in Binh Duong can create an impressive landscape for visitors, and even scientists, researchers.

Experts said that urban greenery had the role in both landscape architecture and environmental protection. The province's greenery system will meet the needs of the environment and landscape, ensure the living environment quality in the province. There are still many coastal, countryside, existing urban greenery that need to be carefully studied for architectural planning in order to create a natural beautiful green space, urban architecture; coastal, countryside scenery of sustainably developing Binh Duong.
