Bulgaria, Vietnam ink MoU on defence cooperation

Bulgarian and Vietnamese defense ministries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation, showing their wish to lift bilateral relations to a higher level.
Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh, who led a delegation to visit Bulgaria from August 14-17, made the statement during the August 15 talks with his Bulgarian counterpart Angel Naydenov and General Simeon Hristov Simeonov, Bulgarian Chief of the General Staff.
Thanh praised the 63- year history of Vietnam-Bulgaria traditional friendship, noting that Vietnam wants to develop comprehensive cooperation with Bulgaria, which is one of its most important partners in Europe.
He thanked Bulgaria for valuable support for Vietnam’s past struggles for national independence and freedom.
Vietnam considers all sided and effective cooperation with Bulgaria in national defence, as a bridge for it to expand European relations in its deeper international integration process.
Under the newly- signed MoU, both countries should promote delegation exchange at all levels and share information on defence industry cooperation, Thanh said.
In reply, Minister Angel Naydenov affirmed that Vietnam is one of Bulgaria’s most important and reliable partners in Asia. The two countries have some similar viewpoints in their policies, forging favourable condition for them to bolster multi-faceted cooperation including national defence.
The Bulgarian Minister said he hopes the MoU will specify new areas of cooperation between the two defence ministries such as delegation and experience exchange, peacekeeping, military medicine, humanitarian activity, military technology, and anti-terrorism.
At an earlier reception for the Vietnamese delegation, President Rosen Plevneliev described its visit a testimony to the fine traditional friendship between the two armies.
President Rosen Plevneliev said his country treasures ties with Vietnam and hoped that the two countries’ relations will be further enhanced after his coming visit to the Southeast Asian nation.
He also pledged to create the best possible conditions for the two armies to improve effective cooperation in training- a key factor behind the long-term development of bilateral relations.
As part of their visit, the Vietnamese delegation visited the Vietnamese Embassy, the Bulgaria Ministry of Economics and Energy, the Bulgaria Academy of Sciences, and the National Military University of Bulgaria where General Thanh and his entourage talked with Vietnamese students.VOV
