Update: 27-11-2011 | 00:00:00

The Deputy Head of the Market Control Department, Do Huu Quang, said in the first half of this year, his department has handled 4,879 cases of counterfeit products and collected more than VND15.5 billion in fines.

He suggested strengthening inspection, control and handling of violations, including accelerating the fight against domestically-made counterfeit and contraband goods.

Speakers stressed the importance of disseminating information on market laws, and increasing the role of craft associations and cooperation between State management agencies and businesses as feasible solutions for dealing with violations.

They maintained that in the context of global integration, it is important to ensure quality, promote legitimate brand names and improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods to boost the country’s economic development and international integration.

The workshop was jointly held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the Market Control Department (MCD), the Vietnam Scientific and Technological Development Company, the Vina CHG information portal and the Economic News to mark the Day Against Fake and Counterfeit Products (November 29).

It provided a forum for administrative agencies and businesses to discuss ways to prevent the production of and trade in counterfeit and low quality products and the protection of trademarks and consumer rights.
