Ensure social security, increase empowerment, and create opportunities for women and girls

 “Ensuring social security, empowering and creating opportunities for women and girls to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence” is the theme of the Action Month for Gender Equality (GE) and prevention and response to gender-based violence in 2023 that were launched by Provincial People's Committee on November 15. On this occasion, Provincial People's Committee also held the fourth contest "Learn about the Law on Gender Equality and Law on Domestic Violence Prevention" in 2023.

 Enhance women's status

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: “Citizens are all equal before the law. Women have equal rights with men in political, economic, cultural, social and family aspects." Determining that gender equality work is an important task, in recent years, Binh Duong has implemented many practical activities, creating favorable conditions for women to excel in education and build prosperous and happy families. Thereby, the role and position of women is proved and makes an important contribution to building happy families and ensuring good social security.

In the period 2021-2025, Binh Duong has achieved positive results in implementing GE goals. Namely, the percentage of women participating in Party committees at all levels reached 30.52%; the rate of women elected to the provincial 15th National Assembly’s delegation reached 20%; the percentage of women elected to People's Council at all levels of the province 2021-2026 reached 31.94%. The number of domestic violence cases has gradually decreased over the years; 100% of victims and perpetrators of violence received counseling and support. The sex ratio at birth is controlled below 105 boys/100 girls. Women receive more support in career development and housework...

In order to continue develop achievements on gender equality, Provincial People's Committee issued a plan to implement the Action Month for GE and preventing and responding to gender-based violence in Binh Duong province in 2023 with the following main activities: launching ceremony of the Action Month and the contest "Learn about the Law on Gender Equality and the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence"; launching ceremony of Action Month and communication campaign in 9 districts, towns and cities in the province; develop propagation activities through products and media...

Trinh Duc Tai, Director of Provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said that the activities of the Action Month continue to highlight the roles and responsibilities of agencies, organizations, families and individuals in ensure social security, implement GE, and prevent violence against women and children. The month of action has become a highlight and a key annual activity of GE work. Hopefully, these messages will truly spread, contributing to cultivating noble spiritual values, establishing a safe, equal and happy living environment for everyone, leaving no one behind.

A special competition

After the launching ceremony, 225 contestants of 9 competition teams from districts, towns and cities in the province together entered the 2023 fourth contest "Learn about the Law on Gender Equality and the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence". Teams competed in two parts: multiple choice and collective. In the multiple choice exam, each team had 25 contestants with 30 minutes to complete, including 30 multiple choice questions and 1 essay question. In the collective competition, each team chose forms of expression such as presentations, singing, skits... revolving around gender equality, women, family...

In the form of theater, the teams brought many skits with humane meaning, sharing how to solve some real-life situations surrounding social issues related to women and children such as: drunk husbands are violent towards their wives and children, mental violence in the family, women's rights in society...

Nguyen Thi Diem My, Tan Uyen City unit, who won first prize in the individual competition, said: “Through the competition, we learned a lot of knowledge about gender equality and domestic violence prevention and control from other teams. This knowledge will be very useful to us, contributing to good implementation of gender equality work and domestic violence prevention and control."

Nguyen Ngoc Hang, Deputy Director of Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, emphasized that the contest aims to propagate the law on gender equality, the law on prevention and control of domestic violence; and raise awareness for union members and collaborators working on children's work; for hamlet's Executive Board are familiar with policies related to gender equality and domestic violence prevention and control. Besides, the contest also creates conditions for union members and collaborators to interact, learn, and exchange experiences in building happy families, moving towards ending violence against women and children.

The contest is the first activity in a series of activities to promote propagation and advocacy at all levels and sectors; attract attention and uphold the role, responsibility and proactive participation of individuals, families and communities in ensuring social security; strengthen the power of women and girls to develop gender equality, prevent and respond to violence and abuse against women and children.

The National Action Month for GE and gender-based violence prevention and control is held annually from November 15 to December 15 with the aim of creating a media peak, attracting attention and participation of the entire society on the importance and goals to be achieved of gender equality work and gender-based violence prevention and control.

At the end of the 2023 fourth contest "Learn about the Law on Gender Equality and the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control", the Organizing Committee awarded first prize of the individual competition to contestant Nguyen Thi Diem My, Tan Uyen City unit; collective first prize belonged to Di An city unit.
