Exhibition on Vietnam Paracel and Spratly sovereignty is ready to serve people

The map and document exhibition on “Paracel and Spratly of Vietnam – Historical and legal evidences” 2016 (hereafter referred as the exhibition) of 2016 is an important propaganda activity to provide historical and legal evidences consolidating undisputable Vietnam’s sovereignty over Paracel and Spratly archipelagoes. At present, the exhibition organizers are preparing all phases, from mobilization of forces to hanging banners on roads, decoration, artifacts, to serve visitors…

Active preparations

The exhibition hosted by Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with provincial People’s Committee will be officially opened on Jun 11 at provincial Cultural – Movies Center. During the preparation process, provincial organizers regularly contact with the Ministry to jointly execute the organization on schedule and as planed. To ensure the progress, the organizers must spend their weekends on completing the decoration and display of the exhibition.

The purpose of the exhibition is to introduce historical evidences and legal foundation of Vietnam’s Paracel and Spratly sovereignty; thus creating conditions for everyone to know and visit the exhibition concerns the organizers. On May 27th 2016, PPC issued Official Document No.1669/UBND-VX on mobilizing forces for the exhibition. In order to inform civil servants, officials and people in the province to understand more Vietnam's sovereignty over these archipelagoes, uphold the sense of responsibility for island sovereignty protection, PPC asks agencies, sectors, unions, localities, educational institutions in the province to announce and create favorable conditions for all civil servants, officials, union members, students, and people to visit the exhibition.

Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh, Director of Department of Information and Communication, Deputy Head of the organizing committee, said the province had also directed mass media to increase propaganda and popularization of the exhibition. Visual propaganda, such as banners, billboards are hung at intersections, roads and populated areas in order to introduce this event to all people.

Affirming the values

Based on the results of 58 exhibitions held in 40 provinces and cities, 10 islands, and armed force units across the country, the exhibition in Binh Duong will introduce nearly 100 precious maps and historical documents on these archipelagoes with the theme “Paracel and Spratly of Vietnam – Historical and legal evidences”. These maps and documentation are collected, printed by Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with ministries, sectors, scientists, and localities. In addition, the exhibition will also display photos of Binh Duong province contributing to island sovereignty protection.

Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh affirmed, maps and documents displayed at the exhibition were historical evidences and legal foundation to prove the sovereignty of Vietnam over Paracel and Spratly archipelagoes in East Sea. These documents show States of Vietnam from feudal to socialist phase, reclaimed, established, enforced and protected of the sovereignty over Paracel and Spratly archipelagoes and other islands within Vietnam territory. It was an continuous, lasting process happening in peace and recorded by many historical sources of Vietnam and other countries, especially documents, maps composed from the 16th century in Vietnam and many countries around the world.

Materials, documents, exhibits, publications and nearly 100 maps at the exhibition are collected by domestic and international scholars. The exhibition includes following material groups: Han – Nom versions, Vietnamese and French documents published by Vietnamese feudal dynasties and Indochinese French government from the 17th to 20th century; especially, official documents of the Nguyen reign (from King Gia Long to King Bao Dai) on reclaiming, establishing, and enforcing the sovereignty over Paracel and Spratly archipelagoes; copies of the South Vietnam government’s official documents in 1954-1975; copies of Socialist Republic of Vietnam’s official documents since 1975; some materials, publications compiled and published by  Western countries from the 18th to 21st century…
