Giving a helping hand to the poor

“In 2010, thanks to a VND20mil loan from the district Bank for Social Policies, I invested in small business and planted nearly 1 ha of vegetables. Therefore, my family now enjoys a comfortable life. My family escaped poverty in 2013”, Huynh Thi Truc, 39, in Hoa Thanh hamlet, Dau Tieng district shared.

Lifebuoy for the poor

After many years of accompanying the poor, the provincial Bank for Social Policies disbursed billions of dong through preferential loan programs, helping the poor approach capital for production and business and escape poverty sustainably as well as make wealth legitimately.

Vo Van Duc, vice director of the provincial Bank for Social Policies said “Annually, we base on the entrusted credit targets to map out plans of capital allocation, disburse nearly VND400bil for districts, towns and Thu Dau Mot city, especially the poor and sub-poor households. In 2014 alone, the bank disbursed more than VND375bil, supported 740 poor households to enjoy loans worth over VND13bil as well as helped nearly 7,000 sub-poor families enjoy loans of more than VND130bil.

With the purpose of taking capital to people in need, the provincial Bank for Social Policies has managed 1,515 saving and loan teams across quarters, hamlets. Besides, 88 out of 91 communes, wards and townships have had transactional offices under the bank.

According to Vo Van Duc, the provincial Bank for Social Policies will continue to focus on offering loans for people in need as well as help needy households approach preferential credit loans and simultaneously mobilize capital sources from the central and local budget to supplement loans.

Using loans effectively

Along with inspection on loans after disbursement, the provincial Bank for Social Policies in cooperation with societies, mass bodies receives commission from the saving and loan teams. Luong Van Du, chairman of Ben Cat town Farmers’ Society said that after many years of assistance, capital source from the provincial Bank for Social Policies accompanies and creates solid steps in both material and spirit for poor and sub-poor households, helping them escape poverty.

Le Thanh Do in My Duc hamlet, Binh My commune, North Tan Uyen district is one of typical examples in using loans effectively.

Receiving us in a wide house, he shared “My family in tha past was very difficult. In 2010, we enjoyed a loan to raise porcupine and trade fertilizer. At present, my family is relatively stable”.

Thanks to loans from the provincial Bank for Social Policies, Nguyen Van Ngan in An Tay commune, Ben Cat town invested in a farm and now he enjoys a profit of over VND200mil per year. In the past, his family lived mainly on rice farming but still faced poverty. After that, he borrowed VND30mil the town Bank for Social Policies to invest in a fish pond, open a fishing service. At present, the model and entertainment fishing, fish raising and orchard on the area of 2.6ha helps his family escape poverty and become a rich family in the locality.

Meanwhile, Le Hoai Khanh in Long Nguyen commune, Bau Bang district enjoys a comfortable life after 3 years of raising pigeon and chicken. He said “my family enjoyed assistance from the district Bank for Social Policies and local Farmers’ Society to improve life”. At present, his family enjoys more than VND100mil per year from this model.
