The Nam Ky Uprising laid the premises for the success of the August Revolution 1945, opening new era for the nation.

 A meeting for the 70th anniversary of the Nam Ky Uprising took place at the Nga Ba Giong Memorial Relics in Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City on November 22.

 Present at the meeting were State President Nguyen Minh Triet, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong, former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, former Vice President Truong My Hoa, senior war veterans, Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of the people’s armed forces and martyrs’ relatives.

 At the meeting, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Le Thanh Hai recalled the Nam Ky Uprising, which broke out in early November 23, 1940 in 18 hamlets in Hoc Mon district and then spread widely to many provinces. Several days afterwards, the uprising was crushed and many Party leaders were captured and killed, including Nguyen Van Cu, Vo Van Tan, Phan Dang Luu, Ha Huy Tap and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai. However, the failure became an example that began following movements.

 Mr Hai said that inheriting the tradition of the uprising, the municipal Party Committee and people have implemented many proper measures to develop the city, mobilise all available sources to further promote socio-economic development, and contribute to the national process of industrialization and modernization.
