National Assembly convenes 8th session

Throughout 35 working days, the longest session this tenure so far, the legislature is expected to adopt 18 draft laws and three draft resolutions, and debate 12 other draft laws.

Addressing the live broadcast opening session, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung stressed that the session takes place in the context of a slow recovering world economy and complicated armed conflicts and epidemics in many areas in the world. In Vietnam, while the macro-economy maintains its stability and the national economy is on a track of recovery, many difficulties remain, threatening sustainable development. Problems in social and security situations are causing concerns among the public, the NA Chairman said, adding that complex developments in the East Sea also make significant impacts on the country’s socio-economic development.

In such a situation, the Party, the people and the army as a whole should uphold their resolve and take synchronous and effective measures to overcome the challenges and fulfil the socio-economic development plans for 2014 and the 2011-2015 period, thus creating a strong impetus for rapid and sustainable development in following years, Chairman Hung said.

He noted that during this session, the NA will cast their vote of confidence for the second time for key officials in the State apparatus.

Also at the opening meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung presented to the NA the Government’s report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plans for 2013, 2014 and the five-year period from 2011-2015. The report also outlined orientations and measures to realise set targets by the end of 2015.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan delivered a report on voters’ opinions and recommendations.
