Although being born and growing up in a poor family with her mother as a worker and father as a bricklayer with low income, Nguyen Cuong Huong Xuan, a 11th grader of Binh An high school in Di An town has always tried to overcome difficulties to become an excellent pupil for 10 consecutive academic years. She is nurturing a dream of becoming a writer or  a photographer. 

Xuan was always an excellent pupil for 10 consecutive academic years. Especially, she represented pupils of Binh An high school to take part in a competition for good pupils in literature of the Sao Khue Award in the 2011 and 2012 academic year. Consequently, she won third prize in the competition.

Noticeably, Xuan’s average score for literature subject in the first term of the 2012-2013 academic year reached 9.2. One of admirable things in this schoolgirl is her efforts to overcome difficulties. It is known that her family always faced difficulties. Her father is a bricklayer, but he is frequently off work with her painful feet when weather changes. Her mother works as a worker with low income, so her family always experience hardship.  

Knowing her hard circumstance, Xuan tried her best to study when being a child. At school, she is now good at most subjects, especially social science subjects. Her study secret is to listen to teachers’ lectures at school, review them at home and do homework with easy to difficult levels. She also sees new lesions before going to school. Along with lessons from teachers at school, she regularly goes to bookstores and libraries to widen her knowledge.

Since early this academic year, Xuan has worked as a waitress for wedding parties to earn money to cover her learning. Head teacher Le Thi Le said: “Although having no conditions to attend extra-classes like her classmates, Xuan has tried her utmost to overcome difficulties to achieve high results in study. At school, Xuan is always enthusiastic to offer help to her classmates”.

Regarding her dream, Xuan said that she would like to become a literature or a photographer. But now, she have to make efforts in study, especially literature subject in order to attend a competition for good pupils in literature subject of the Sao Khue Award and provincial Olympic literature competition.
