Part 1: Tremendous changes

Along with the investment in infrastructure development of new industrial zones, modern transportation infrastructure and new urban development, the former Bau Beo field swept away and the swamp has been transformed into Binh Duong new spacious and modern urban center.

New urban appearance

These days, going on the road of life My Phuoc - Tan Van people will easily notice the rapid change of this land. Put into use not long but this route has become the main road from Binh Duong to Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, the Central Highlands. The turn to Pham Ngoc Thach Street has been upgraded so that people can enter Binh Duong new city center very quickly. Besides, the bus system of Becamex - Tokyu has been put into operation to connect existing Thu Dau Mot City with the new city of Binh Duong, with the frequency of 10-15 minutes a trip. In the coming time, this bus system will continue to be expanded to connect Binh Duong new city with Ben Cat, Tan Uyen and My Phuoc - Tan Van streets. The provincial People's Committee approved the policy for Becamex - Tokyu Company to study the planning of urban clusters combining the bus stop (TOD) on My Phuoc - Tan Van to connect Binh Duong new city with bus station East, Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line; after 2020, research will be transformed to a metro to improve regional connectivity.

The new city of Binh Duong, from electricity and water supplying infrastructure to communications have been invested synchronously; lighting powering system has been installed underground; all roads have lighting systems. In the new city is invested enough water to provide the entire population living and working here. Meanwhile, the new city center park is invested on a 75 hectares scale offering the amusement and entertainment to residents living in and around the area. The investment projects here are arranged with green trees, flower gardens, and sports areas to serve groups of residents, such as Tokyu garden urban area project of Gold Land luxury villa area.

In terms of education, the school system is of great interest, such as Ngo Thoi Nhiem School, Nguyen Khuyen School, Singapore International School, Eastern International University. Binh Duong Gymnasium and Sports Complex has been built as the venue for physical and sport events such as motor racing, badminton, table tennis, swimming etc. In terms of trade and services, the new city has formed and put into use including many important works such as Becamex hotel, Japanese restaurants, mini supermarket etc., basically meet the needs of people. In terms of health, the new city has Van Phuc Hospital. In addition, the province is investing in building the planning of hospitals in Dinh Hoa Ward, Thu Dau Mot Town, about 5 km from Binh Duong New City.

More than 15 years ago, the new city of Binh Duong was still a desert. The land was wide but the people’s lives here were still in hardship. Therefore, the development of new infrastructure with new industrial parks and trade - service areas has created jobs and offered stable income to improve the material and spiritual lives of local people as one of the purposes of Binh Duong Province turning drylands and swamps into a modern and spacious city.

Nguyen Van Nhan, a resident of Quarter 1, Hoa Phu Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, said: "In the past, this place was purely agricultural land. Since the province assigned Becamex IDC to be the investor of the new Binh Duong city, it has formed a modern urban area, which our people have never thought of before. The homeland has changed to have a completely new urban appearance. Born and grown up in this land, I am really happy to witness the rapid change of the homeland."

People’s lives improved

Nguyen Thi Tuyet, in Quarter 1, Phu Tan Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, said that in the new city of Binh Duong supermarkets and many large food outlets such as food and drink parlors have emerged including Hikari, Family supermarkets, AROMA coffee etc. Besides, the amusement and entertainment areas have also modernly been built including parks, swimming pools, sports complex etc. to meet the needs of local people.

Nong Van Bo, from Lang Son province, worker Thao Ha Company from Hoa Phu ward excitedly said: "This park is where we often come in every weekend. The park has a swimming pool, aquarium, and trees; the air is cool, so many people like to come here."

Hoang Van Phuong from Dinh Hoa Ward of Thu Dau Mot City said: "My family is near the Dai Nam tourist area. My spouse worked for a company near my home, and at the weekend I used to take my wife and son to the new city park for fun. This place is large, clean, beautiful and green trees, and play areas for children like swings, swimming pool etc. so my children like it here. The park also has a place to keep the car so people come here with peace of mind.”

Huynh Thi Oanh, a grocery store owner in front of the provincial exhibition center, said that every afternoon from 16:00 on, many people get here for recreation and entertainment. Music shows are frequently organized at weekends for majority of audience. Oanh added that she could earn VND 6 to 7 million a month thanks to such activities. In the light of the streets of Binh Duong new city, we returned with delight as the former field has tremendously been changed into modern urban areas, offering services to local people.
