Press to assist businesses

Update: 19-06-2015 | 17:19:09

In Vietnam, the press is the mainstream media managed by the State, has the function of informing and orienting public opinions. Press news has brought faith and is simultaneously an indispensable demand in people’s life and social development, including business activities.

Working together

General Directorate of Customs ranked Binh Duong Customs as 1 in 7 leading units in operational efficiency, facilitating business activities contributing significantly to the process of attracting investment through implementing customs procedures reform and modernization. Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Viet Dung, Director of Binh Duong Customs, said: “Time is one of the important factors determining success of enterprises. Thus, we have worked hard in order for goods and materials of businesses to be cleared and used for manufacture, sale, increasing competitiveness of businesses. This could not succeed, if there was only customs sector. This needs the coordination of many sectors including the press”.

Reporters of Binh Duong Newspaper (left) interviewed foreign business managers in Binh Duong.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Chien, personnel administrative director of KJCV Co. located in Vietnam - Singapore I industrial park, businesses are lack of knowledge and regulations on fire preventing fighting. Because of instructions and inspection, businesses have streamlined, prevented effectively risks of fire and explosion. Propaganda of the press has motivated businesses to increasingly improve, consolidating costumers’ trust.

Mr. Yasuzumi Hirotaka, Vice Chairman of Japanese foreign trade promotion organization – HCM City branch, said, potentiality of trade cooperation between Vietnam and Japan was enormous. Japan has advanced technologies, Vietnam has high demands. In order for the two sides to meet, a bridge is in need. That is the media channel.

A companion

In recent years, the common economy has encountered the global economic crisis. To restrict the trade deficit as well as import inflation from foreign countries, the Ministry of Finance and the General Department of Customs increased import tax from 0% to 10%. This has helped to prevent effectively the arbitrary import of goods, such as: cars, foreign liquor, electronics and other luxury items, into domestic market. However, this policy also has adversely affected businesses, including timber industry.

Ms. Do Thi Kim Loan, Vice President of Binh Duong Wood processing association, sent written proposals to relevant agencies and the press. The reason was: export processing enterprises only import timber as raw material for production, and then export all under contracts, not for local consumption.

After consultation with customs sector, local newspaper has promptly made news to reflect business’s opinions. Thus, during a short time period, this regulation was amended to help enterprises stabilizing production.

Similarly, regarding the imposition of anti-dumping tax on several Vietnamese goods from some countries, the press played an important role in informing activities of businesses as well as negative impacts on society…
