Remarkable transformation on two major routes

Update: 21-08-2024 | 15:29:20

After one week (from August 13 to 20), a peak week of traffic order and safety control patrols was conducted on two routes of My Phuoc - Tan Van and National Highway 13 (NH13). According to the assessment from the task force, most drivers have shown positive changes and complied well with staying in their designated lanes.

Observation of road lanes

According to reporters, on the 19 and 20 of the month, on National Highway 13 (section passing through Thuan Giao Ward, Thuan An City) during the morning rush hour, the traffic was congested, all vehicles stayed in their lanes, and trucks, trailers, and passenger cars no longer encroached on the motorbike lane. In addition, many passenger cars running on Route 22-12 (Thuan Giao Ward) that used to frequently encroach on the motorbike lane are now strictly complying.

Lieutenant Luu Van Vy, Chief of the Traffic Police Station on National Highway 13, said that in implementing the plan to patrol and control traffic order and safety on National Highway 13, the station has assigned a team to set up fixed checkpoints, and another team to conduct mobile patrols on some classified roads with complex traffic situations to control and penalize violators. In addition, the organization also arranges officers to coordinate with relevant forces to record multiple vehicles only complying with the "confrontation" style with the police force. When there is a traffic police force, they comply, but when there is no traffic police force, they violate, posing a potential risk of accidents for road users. Previously, the provincial police traffic force had coordinated and disseminated information about the Road Traffic Law to the public, drivers, and vehicle owners, so strict penalties will be imposed on intentional violations.

Similarly, on the Mỹ Phước - Tân Vạn route, after the prohibited hours from 6:30 to 8:30, there are quite a few trucks and trailers, causing slow traffic and strict compliance from drivers, with no more cases of encroaching on the motorbike lane. Many motorbike riders happily pass the checkpoint and say thanks to traffic police. Lieutenant Lam Hien Huynh, Deputy Team Leader of the Road Traffic Police Team of the Provincial Traffic Police Department, said that after a week of intensive patrol and control, strict penalties, currently the vehicles are complying well, large trucks are not encroaching on motorbike lanes, so motorbike riders can feel at ease. However, there are still some cases where motorcycles enter lanes designated for cars that pose a hidden risk of accidents. To ensure safety when participating in traffic, motorcycle riders need to adhere to the correct lane, obey traffic light signals when crossing the road, and not cross the road arbitrarily, as it can easily cause accidents, advised Lieutenant Colonel Lam Hien Huynh.

After a week of intense deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Phuong Toan, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of the province, said that based on information from the media and public opinion, it can be said that the patrol and control operation, as well as the punishment of overloaded trucks and cars encroaching on motorcycle lanes, has received support from the people.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Phuong Toan, the reason why trucks encroach on lanes designated for motorcycles is also due to the fact that the road at the intersection of Pham Ngoc Thach and My Phuoc - Tan Van, up to the Thuy Chau Tourist Area, is narrowed and bottlenecked, while from the intersection of Pham Ngoc Thach and My Phuoc - Tan Van to the end of Bau Bang district, there are 5 lanes. The narrow lane affects travel time and safety for road users.

During a week of patrol and control, handling violations, the provincial traffic police force has made records of handling over 400 violation cases. At the same time, the force also surveyed and captured shortcomings in traffic infrastructure to propose the Department of Transport to install additional hard barriers for motorbike lanes and install traffic surveillance cameras. Specifically, narrow the fixed separation strip between the roads to increase the width of the road to ensure the flow of two lanes for cars, trucks, and trailers, then rearrange the road markings and install rigid separation strips for the lane dedicated to motorcycles. In addition, the road surface of National Highway 13 has been expanded so the functional unit proposes adjusting some signs to be appropriate, while strengthening patrol forces to maintain traffic order and enhance compliance awareness from traffic participants.

Regarding the work of ensuring traffic order and safety on arterial roads and reducing traffic collisions and accidents involving trucks and trailers, the Department of Transport has announced that the unit has conducted surveys and reached a consensus on the dismantling design plan for the Dinh Hoa roundabout (Thu Dau Mot City), the My Phuoc 3 Industrial Park roundabout, and the An Dien roundabout (Ben Cat City), and has reorganized traffic at these intersections using a traffic signal system.
