Revised Law on Journalism under NA discussion

Update: 19-02-2016 | 09:17:22

On February 18, the National Assembly Standing Committee discussed the revised Law on Journalism.

Revisions concerning online newspapers and social networks topped the discussion.

Chairman of the National Assembly Ethnicity Council K’sor Phuoc stressed the need for the Law on Journalism to regulate websites and social networks.

“There are numerous sources of online information, including central news agencies, private sources, blogs, and domestic and foreign websites. It is essential to have State management at least of domestic websites," he said.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said the 2013 Constitution includes provisions on freedom of the press, speech, and information. Those freedoms are regulated by law.

He said the Law on Journalism needs to have specific regulations concerning news websites and social networks.

The same day, the National Assembly Standing Committee also discussed the Law on Child Protection, Care and Education.
