Recently, a productivity and quality improvement program has been applied by many enterprises and brought positive results. This is also the foundation for businesses to meet the standards of national quality award.
To reduce costs, improve quality
Currently, the province has more than 500 ceramic enterprises and establishments. Finding solutions to improve production efficiency always concerns these enterprises. Tran Chanh Tin, Head of Quality Management Department under Cuong Phat Company, said the company had gradually modernized their production process and purchased some modern equipment. However, the company still faces a number of difficulties; especially the loss of materials is still high, affecting the cost of products. But then after employing tools of productivity and quality improvement, many problems were solved, production material losses have been reduced, product quality has been improved.

“The rate of damaged products in our production process decreased on average from 3.5 to 4.1% per year. With the improvement of kilns, the implementation of land recovery from waste sludge, the company saves more than VND 600 million annually on raw material costs, saves an average of nearly VND 26 million per month", said Mr. Tin.
Nhat Tuong Company (Thuan An town) applies advanced tools of productivity and quality improvement. This helps the company reduce the amount of waste in the production process, helps workers not to move around much by using wheel pallets for moving materials, finished products, and replacing some manual stages with automatic process. Since then, the company has reduced pretty much production costs.
According to Le Trung Thu, Hanoi Production - Service and Export Import Joint Stock Company (Haprosimex JSC) - Binh Duong Branch, their factory in Uyen Hung Industrial Complex (Tan Uyen town) applied 5S and Kaizen tools. Since then, the company has decreased the number of faulty products, reducing production costs, product quality reached a higher uniformity rate. Thanks to these tools, the company saves an average of over VND 300 million per year.
Nguyen Binh Phuoc, Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology, evaluated that the productivity and quality improvement of enterprises in the province in recent years, especially small and medium enterprises, proved its efficiency. At enterprises, production costs are reduced significantly; they saved raw materials, improved productivity, product quality, and heightened their competitiveness on the market.
To connect with national quality award
According to enterprises, when participating in the National Quality Award, they learnt about the 7 criteria. Enterprises that follow these criteria have gained sustainability in business operation, including criteria to meet productivity and quality improvement.
Ly Thai Hung, Director of Provincial Bureau of Quality Measuring Standards, said that the benefits of enterprises achieving national quality award were very much, such as enhancing their product position; strengthening capacity, competitiveness and integration; opportunities for self-learning, self-assessment of quality management system. These businesses are also supported by ministries, branches, and localities in production, business, trade promotion and productivity and quality improvement programs...
In order to create favorable conditions for enterprises to participate in the National Quality Award, Binh Duong province has a project to improve the productivity and product quality for small and medium enterprises in Binh Duong province in period 2017-2020. Mr. Phuoc said this project was to facilitate provincial small and medium enterprises to apply technical standards, advanced management systems, models, and improving tools to improve productivity and product quality - one of the criteria for participating in the National Quality Award.
“The State will provide financial support for consultancy on construction, application, and certification of advanced quality management systems with a support level not exceeding VND 40 million/system; support enterprises to apply productivity and quality improvement tools (training, consultancy ...) not exceeding VND 30 million/tool. Each enterprise are supported to apply 4 tools with an amount of not more than VND 120 million”, said Mr. Phuoc.
In addition, the Prime Minister issued Decision 712 about the program to improve productivity and quality of goods products of Vietnamese enterprises by 2020. On this basis, relevant ministries and agencies shall conduct training experts for regions, from central to local levels. These experts shall understand the world’s criteria as well as some other requirements to advise businesses on applying these standards into businesses.
