Fourteen classical plays of different genres such as tuong, cheo, and cai luong have been selected for the theatre festival that opened at the Hanoi Opera House on August 19.
The entries to the event focus on topics that depict Thang Long-Hanoi’s history.
The ‘Transferring the Capital’ play by the Dong Nai Cai luong Troupe started the event. It provided an overview of the historical context of Thang Long City and the strategic decision made by King Ly Cong Uan.
The cai luong play was very dramatic and excited the audience with lots of breathtaking conflicts and climaxes concerning relations between the king and his subjects, fathers and sons, and wives and husbands.
The festival, part of a series of activities to mark the millennial anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, is expected to help educate local people on patriotism and national pride.
