Thuan An, 10 years of sharing difficulties with the poor

Update: 22-10-2010 | 00:00:00

According to statistics, Thuan An district basically fulfilled the eradication task of dilapidated thatched houses in 2005. So far, the whole district has only had several poor households under the new poverty line.

Noticeably, the district’s campaign of the Day for the Poor launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee has gained encouraging results. Over the past 10 years, the district mobilized the fund of more than VND6.5bln to offer help to the poor. The district also spent more than VND3.9bln from the fund on building and upgrading 507 unity houses…

Assessing the 10-year implementation of the campaign of the Day for the Poor, Nguyen Tan Dung, vice-chairman of Thuan An district’s Fatherland Front Committee said: “The campaign over time received strong response from the local people, greatly contributing to realizing the Party and State’s policies on hunger eradication and poverty reduction…”.

Although the district’s mobilization board for the campaign and authorities made efforts in offering help to the poor, there were a lot of households near the poverty line. As of late 2009, the whole district had 1,326 households in need of help. There were still many shortcomings in the process of realizing the campaign for change.

For the campaign getting better results, the district’s mobilization board for the campaign has put forward many tasks for the following years. Main tasks are to carry out a program on eradiation of dilapidated houses for the poor; strive to fulfill housing construction for the poor by 2012 under the Government PM’s Decision No.167; increase the number of localities completing eradication of dilapidated houses for the poor; promote the campaign via many forms to mobilize the strength of the great national unity bloc…

Members of the district’s mobilization board for the campaign will also guide the local people how to do business, helping them rise up out of poverty; discover and honor exemplary role models in the campaign; offer help to poor pupils…
