Tien Minh seeded at World Championships

Vietnam badminton star Nguyen Tien Minh has been seeded at the most prestigious tournament in badminton, the 2013 BWF World Championships taking place in Guangzhou, China from August 5-11. 

The 2013 US Open champion is seeded No. 7 in the men’s singles behind top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, second seed Chen Long and third seed Du Pengyu, both from China.

According to the draw on Monday, the first round of play expects to be a comfortable challenge to Minh as he takes on Joe Wu from New Zealand, who is ranked just 116th in the world.

If victorious in the opener, Minh will take on the winner of the clash between world No. 69 Jan Frohlich of the Czech Republic and world No. 60 German Domke.

The biennial event brings together approximately 400 of the world’s top players representing five continents competing for the title of World Champion in the men’s and women’s singles and doubles, and the mixed doubles categories.
