To preserve a "green lung" for the city

In recent years, Thuan An town has paid attention to building a green, clean, beautiful, friendly and civilized city. In particular, the policy implementation to develop orchards in the area for urban development is one of the tasks that the town attaches special importance to.

The right direction

In fact, with the rapid urbanization speed of urban areas, they must face the problem of urban development associated with the task to ensure the living environment. Thuan An town is a young city with fast speed mechanical population growth, along with the impact of climate change; thus the orientation and construction for a  green and modern city is the right direction.

Recently, many roads in the town have been planted with new trees of many types, which are beneficial for human health and the environment... In parallel, the town implemented an action program of Thuan An Party Committee on maintaining and developing orchards in this area. This is one of the key tasks that the town's localities have done to restore, maintain and develop orchards to serve the urban economic growth.

Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, the section passing Hung Dinh ward, is planted with green trees to create shades and green landscapes.

According to Nguyen Van Dau, Vice Chairman of Hung Dinh Ward People's Committee, the whole ward now has 148 households with orchards, total area of ​​over 33.3 hectares. Recently, for the implementation of Decision No. 63/2016 / QD-UBND dated December 20, 2016 of the Provincial People's Committee, local authorities continued to support fertilizers and fund for clearing canal flows... to gradually improve, maintain and preserve local fruit trees. Besides, this locality cooperated with governmental bodies to open training courses on planting, caring, harvesting and preserving techniques for farmers to improve productivity and economic efficiency of fruit trees. The results showed that every year, the average yield of fruit trees in the ward reached 177 tons.

According to Mr. Dau, local government and households have made good use of natural advantages and support policies, thereby contributing significantly to changing the face of this locality and Thuan An town.

Vo Huynh Ngoc Thuy, Chairwoman of People's Committee of Binh Nham Ward, said that in fruit season this year, productivity of orchards in this area had gained satisfactory results. Recent surveys in some households in the area showed that durian and mangosteen orchards were evenly blooming, promising bumper crops to farmers.

 According to Truong Cong Thach, Deputy Head of Economic Chamber of Thuan An Town, the supporting policy for fruit orchards has initially brought good results in both socio-economic field and environment. Namely, this policy has gradually improved existing fruit orchards in the town in terms of productivity and quality, motivated farmers to apply scientific and technical advances into farming; created a healthy environment, ensuring good health for the community...

 Mr. Thach added that the above policy helped farmers be more aware and responsible for traditional orchards, thereby contributing to restoring orchards and improving farmer lives. Many quarters and hamlets well performed propagation and dissemination of supporting policies for fruit tree development. Thanks to the implementation of above policies of the province, canal system in the area is clearer, orchard ditches are no longer flooded for more than 24 hours/day. As a result, fruit trees in the area have gradually recovered and diminished pests and diseases appear on trees...

To improve the quality of urban life

In order for the town to develop its economy in association with tourism, the gradual improvement of urban landscape and greenery, the planning for specialty orchard development is necessary. The problem is how to maintain its efficiency, ensure uniformity, diversity and long term.

 Mr. Dau said that in the coming time, Hung Dinh ward would continue to propagate extensively guidelines, policies, and the importance of maintaining and developing local orchards to households. In addition, the ward will coordinate with functional agencies, construction units to dredge Chom Sao - Suoi Don drainage works. The locality also regularly dredges and clears flows in their area to avoid flooding, limit bad impacts on orchards. At the same time, the locality will implement policies to support and maintain specialty orchards in the period of 2017-2021 according to Decision No. 63 of Provincial People's Committee.

According to Mr. Thach, in the coming time, the Town Economic Chamber will continue to cooperate with localities to evaluate productivity, production and implementation of Decision No. 63; survey and select beautiful ecological gardens to develop exemplary orchards and implement VietGAP process. Besides, this unit will make plans based on forecasts of economic development, infrastructure investment associated with eco-tourism and ecological environment protection.

Thuan An town has been trying to implement many urban development solutions. At present, infrastructures, urban face, urban greenery, living environment in the town are improved. In particular, the preservation of the "green lung" for the town has created an important highlight in the construction and development of Thuan An urban and civilized city.
