At the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Duke of York, Prince Andrew of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will visit Vietnam and attend Hanoi’s giant celebration of 1,000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi from October 8-12.
The visit aims to promote the economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Britain, contributing to the increase of the friendship relationship and good cooperation between the two countries.
On behalf of Britain, Prince Andrew will also attend the capital giant millennial celebration. He is the UK's special representative for international trade and investment.
This will be his fifth visit to Vietnam following the visits in March 1999, June 2006, September 2008 and October 2009.
The relationship between Vietnam and Britain is continuously being developed. During a visit to the UK from September 8-12 by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem, Vietnam and the UK signed a joint declaration, officially raising the Vietnam – UK relationship to a strategic partnership, creating favourable conditions to promote comprehensive, long-term, stable and sustainable relations.
The two sides agreed on seven main cooperative sectors, mainly political and diplomatic, regional and global, trade and investment, development cooperation, socio-economic areas, education and training, defence and security, and people’s exchange activities.
