Vietnam has registered to take part in the world day against climate change (October 10) with 27 events.
The theme of the world day against climate change 2010 is “350”. 350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide, measured in parts per million in our atmosphere. 350 PPM - it’s the number humanity needs to revert to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change.
Up to 175 countries have registered 5,162 events for that day. In Vietnam, the 27 events will take place in Hanoi and HCM City (9 events each), Da Nang (2), Tay Ninh, Bac Ninh, Hue, Da Lat, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Long and Hoi An (1 event each).
To support the world day against climate change, a walk for the environment was held in the ancient city of Hoi An on September 26, drawing 2,000 people. A similar event took place in HCM City on September 16. In August and September, 1,000 trees were planted at 20 primary schools in Hanoi.
Top events in the world on October 10 include:
•President Nasheed of the Maldives installing a set of solar panels on his roof on October 7 to kick off the weekend of action
•10,000 schools planting trees in Russia and Croatia
•Over 1,000 events in the United States, from parishioners weatherizing their church in Atlanta to citizens in Nebraska planting native grasses to restore the prairie to a hip-hop show at an urban farm in Oakland, California
