Politburo member Pham Quang Nghi visits a silk shop in Van Phuc Village.

The local authorities and residents of Van Phuc Silk Village should focus on studying market demand, improving product quality and innovating product design in order to upgrade the village’s longstanding brand.

Politburo member Pham Quang Nghi, Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee, made the recommendation on February 12 during a working visit to the village.

Politburo member Nghi said that the preservation and development of the village’s traditional craft is important to satisfying customer demand and improving the image of Vietnamese goods.

He also noted that the development of the craft should be aligned with environmental protection and pollution prevention.

Located in Hanoi’s Van Phuc Ward in Ha Dong District, Van Phuc Village is famous for its centuries-old traditional craft of silk weaving.

The village is now home to more than 300 facilities and households, which specialise in silk production, running over 150 shops with various services.

Since 2009, the village has welcomed more than 350,000 domestic visitors and around 65,000 foreigners.
