Youth and Information Technology Contest – A useful playground

The 1st Youth and Information Technology (IT) Contest 2013 held by provincial Youth Union ended successfully. The contest was a forum for young people to show their talents as well as express their concerns about young people’s usage of IT in real life.  Organizers gave rewards to winning teamsMore knowledge accumulatedThe Youth and IT Contest comprised 2 contents: preliminary and final round. The preliminary round happened on October 5th with 4 exciting categories. Topics involved office computer, basic knowledge of computer network, usage of software and hardware of computer, how to handle common computer problems, antivirus, information security, IT applications supporting working and learning, usage of online services, and IT laws, regulations. After the preliminary round, 4 excellent teams competed in the final round, they were: Youth Union (YU) of Dau Tieng Rubber Company, YU of Phuoc Hoa Rubber Company, Union bloc of provincial agencies, and Phu Giao district YU. After each stirring competition, there were interesting cultural performances of contestants, creating a relaxing ambience for participants.Many more contests like this are expectedThe Contest came to an end, but there were still many feelings, thoughts remaining in hearts of contestants. These were thoughts of solutions to IT application to educational task of YU, how to convince young people to attend healthy websites etc. Nguyen Hong Phong, a contestant of Tax Department, said: “In addition to improving professional skills, and IT laws, the contest also show advantages and disadvantages of IT to the youth. IT has two aspects. Thus the most important thing is to educate young people so that they can have skills for life, and choose what they need and good for themselves”.Although this was the first contest, teams prepared carefully for their competition. “We hope that the contest would initiate more IT application at organizations, contestants could accumulate knowledge and skills to convey to friends, colleagues”, said juryman Nguyen Manh Dung, who is Deputy Head of IT Office of provincial Information Communication Department.The contest was a playground combining playing and learning for the youth; orienting thoughts for young people; simultaneously, establishing a team for the contest of the 1st National Informatics Contest 2013 for public servants in November 2013.Reported by T.
