23 outstanding individuals, collectives in sports sector honored

Early Mar.24, provincial Department of Culture-Sports and Tourism (DoCST) held a ceremony to mark the 70^th anniversary of Vietnamese Sports Day (Mar.27, 1946-Mar.27, 2016).

At the ceremony, Huynh Ngoc Dang, Director of provincial DoCST reviewed the tradition of Vietnam’s sports sector during the past 70 years. Following this glorious tradition, the province’s sports sector has reached considerable results. The whole province has so far had 28.2% of population regularly taking physical exercises, up 20.31% compared to that of 1997. For the high-performance sports movement, there are now 18 events with 1,308 athletes who take part in more than 100 domestic and foreign tournaments every year, winning thousands of various medals. Sports teams invested by economic units in the province reaped considerable results over the past time. Particularly, Becamex Binh Duong football team won four V-league titles, three National Cup and Super Cup titles. Biwase’s female cycling team also grasped tens of gold medals at national tournaments…

On this occasion, the Ministry of Culture-Sports and Tourism (MoCST) awarded the mementoes to 9 individuals. Provincial People’s Committee also presented the certificates of merit to 1 collective and 22 individuals for their good performance in training and competition.
