Over the past 5 years (2005-2010) Binh Duong province has reached important achievements on all areas of eco-politics, socio-culture and national defense and security, despite the global economic recession. The results are a basic foundation, creating position and strength for the provincial party committee, authority and people to turn the locality into an advanced and urban area.
An average increase of 14% in GDP
In terms of economy, in the last 5 years the total GDP in the province reached an average rise of 14% per year with the structure of 63% in industry, 32.6% in service and 4.4% in agriculture. Compared to 2005, the local service rose 4.5% whilst industry and agriculture decreased 0.5% and 4%, respectively. Besides, the local average income obtained VND30.1mil per year, 2.2 time higher than 2005.
Business and production show a lovely development despite difficulties.
Considering industrial development as a staple field, the province’s industrial development in the Southern area has showed a stable growth. The development combined with specific planning and orientation has ranked Binh Duong into the country’s leading industrial province. Notably, in 2008 and 2009, despite many difficulties caused by the global economic recession, the local industrial production remained high, boosting development for other fields. At present, the entire province has had 28 industrial parks covering on an area of nearly 9,000ha.
In addition, service and trade have also showed a rapid growth. Specifically, service surged 24.1% per year. The total retail and turnover of service surged 32.8% per year, 4 times higher than previous 5 years. Supermarkets, trade centers and markets have been emerged across province. Meanwhile, export turnover in 2010 reaches $8.5bil, 2.8 times higher than 2005. Staple items for export include timber, footwear, garment, rubber and handicraft and electronics with markets across 180 nations and territories. The field of finance and banking has developed lively with 35 state-run commercial banks and joint stock commercial banks, 4 joint venture ones, one foreign one, 11 credit funds and 84 transactional rooms…
As for agricultural industry, perennial plants and animal husbandry have been an advantage in the province whilst farmstead economy has continued affirming its crucial role in the rural socio-economic growth.
Synchronous investment in infrastructure facility
The province has applied incentive policies into luring businesses to build infrastructure facilities synchronously. The important traffic works and industrial parks under rapid building have made up a traffic network connected localities with the Southern key economic zone. The urban rejuvenation and rural traffic movements have won great response from local people across province.
Electricity network has been upgraded and built to raise capacity and quality. 100% of communes and hamlets have been assessable to national electric grid. Besides, water supply works have been strongly invested with 15 water plants built across province, helping 95% of urban population access clean water.
The entire province has had 112 residential, urban and commercial housing projects with a total area of more than 6,000ha of land. Businesses and families have built 575,000sqm of housing to cater for over 143,000 workers and nearly 42,000sqm of housing for students.
Progresses in socio-culture
Together with economic growth, the local socio-culture area has over the past 5 years showed progresses, improving material and spiritual life of local residents. The entire province has had 369 schools, satisfying learning demand for more than 215,000 students. 46.84% of all level schools have been recognized as national standard schools. The instruction on educational socialization has received great response from units and individuals. The locality has had 7 universities, 7 colleges, 13 intermediate schools, 30 vocational training schools…
Moreover, grassroot medical network has been reinforced and developed. The whole province now has 13 general hospitals, 5 speciality hospitals, 40 general clinics and over 2,000 medical workshops. Besides, fields of culture, sports and tourism have been invested, meeting local people’s demand. The whole province has built 566 gratitude houses, 1,800 hi-unity houses and granted tens of billions of VND to the poor. Annually, about 46,500 laborers are offered jobs, reaching 60% of skilled labor rate. Till 2008, the locality had no poor household in line with the old poverty line.
Additionally, many scientific and technological projects have been launched, raising application into production and life. Post and telecom facility has showed a rapid growth with 100% of state agencies under internet connection. Especially, in the last 5 years, the national defense and security have been under stability and breakthroughs of administrative reform have played a crucial role in developing the local economy.
